Example Interview Questions

These example interview questions are presented in a natural order that allows the interviewer to uncover a great deal of information during the first interview. These questions can be used as an interviewing guide or an addendum to other interviewing techniques.

  • Describe yourself as a person?

  • Give a brief synopsis of your career?

  • Expand on some of your recent accomplishments (dig back 2-3 years).

  • What has been a weakness you have had to overcome in the past 5 years?

  • How would your current manager describe you as an employee?

  • What is your 5-year career plan? Lifetime career plan?

  • Rate yourself on computer literacy.

  • What did you like best about your current/past position and company?

  • What are your prospecting methods?

  • How do you plan your work activity?

  • In which markets have you sold products or services?

  • How do you rank among your peers locally and nationally?

  • How many direct and/or indirect reports do you have?

  • Have you won any incentive trips or received any awards in the past 3 years?

  • In the past three years, quantify your performance in numbers.

  • How do you differentiate yourself among your peers?

  • Describe your typical workweek.

  • What is your management style?

  • What experience have you had in developing a team of subordinates?

  • How many employees have you mentored to a promotion?

  • How many times have you had to terminate an employee?

  • What do you expect of your direct reports?

  • Under what management style you do work best?

  • If you left your current company, could you leverage business to your new company?

  • Are you currently restricted by a non-compete clause?

  • Why did you leave your past employers?

  • Why are you currently interested in making a career change?

  • How could you contribute to our company?

  • Why should I hire you for this position?

  • Are you interviewing with any other companies?

  • What criteria are you using to evaluate the company for which you hope to work for?

  • How upwardly mobile are you?

  • Can you relocate to advance your career?

  • Will you pass a background check and drug test?

  • What are your hobbies?

  • Name the last 2 or 3 books you read.

  • What can you say about yourself that would influence our decision to hire you?

  • Based on what you know about this position, what immediate contributions could you make?
